HP reported that it plans to announce that it will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones. HP will continue to explore options to optimize the value of webOS software going forward.
In the tablet world, we’re going to become better than number one. We call it number one plus.
Nice comparison of the Xoom, iPad 2, Playbook and TouchPad - though, half of the devices have yet to ship, and the iPad 2 proves the magic’s only half in the device itself. It’s the software experience that sets the bar so high with the Apple tablet.
It’s a long read but interesting to hear from Palm about this coming year. The webOS SDK is going through a bit of a bumpy phase, moving from the 1.x Mojo SDK to the 2.x Enyo SDK, however the TouchPad looks like a terrific competitor to the iPad. I’d love to see Palm be a big player in the tablet war this year.
Lots of smart observations and examples from iOS, Android and webOS.
Heavily borrowed from inspired by the iPad. It’s certainly a slick product. It doesn’t ship until ‘this summer’ for the WiFi version (3G/4G versions to follow).
HP’s corporate blog has a tonne more links.
I’m impressed - seriously impressed - that someone’s got a product planned that looks set to offer some decent competition to the iPad.
Looks like the HP Webstore team didn’t get the memo about only hitting the “Publish” button after today’s event.
I’m a huge fan of webOS, and rather excited about HP’s plans for the platform - though the invite lacks any mention of the Palm brand.
Also: what a way to steal some of the limelight from competitors at CES this week.
A terrific look at the Palm Pre 2, iPhone 4 and Nexus S by Taylor Carrigan
Never mind the fact that Android and iOS have 100,000 / 300,00 apps respectively - the most worrying sign for Palm is that Windows Phone 7, launched just two months ago, is already at 4,800 apps.
