This can only be good news: Apple’s current modal notifications are just not cutting it for folks.
Don’t get me wrong, the Pre isn’t perfect: but the webOS platform is genuinely innovative. I’ve always thought webOS would have been a Google OS (given their expertise in Javascript / HTML / CSS) - maybe more so than Android - but I’d be sad to see Palm disappear.
As some as you know, I’ve been playing with a Palm Pre for the last couple of months. If you’re a Pre user who’s sick of the Palm / iTunes dance that’s been on-going this past year, and looking for a way to sync your iTunes library to the Pre, my post at Download Squad might be of interest.
Engadget’s Nilay Patel really hits the nail on the head regarding the Palm Pre’s iTunes syncing. Palm’s cavalier attitude to the cat-and-mouse iTunes sync game is reckless at best - especially as there’s a whole lot of talented folks at Palm who could make the sync experience great without iTunes.
Yes, it’s another hyperbolic TechCrunch post, but it’s hard to underplay the speed of the 3GS’ Javascript (people, take note: you’re allowed to use apostrophes after S in lieu of -es). The iPhone 3GS runs roughly 3x faster than the iPhone 3G running 3.0 (and 6 times faster than a 3G running OS 2.2.1). The iPhone 3GS remains 12 times slower than a MacBook, but it’s a darn-sight faster than the Pre or G1.
Looks like those yearning for it on Verizon (or even AT&T) are going to have to wait a little longer.
Good to see a unusually fresh, hype-free approach to the Pre from a TechCrunch property. Ahem.
I’m going to guess this doesn’t last long - at least, not without some deal being made.
