1. Your app has too many settings, too many things to tweak. API endpoints? Colors of the rainbow? 100 different fonts and font sizes? Temperature in Kelvin? Switch the app to use Esperanto?

Kill the settings, kill them all.

Kill The Settings, Build Opinionated Software - a great piece by Mike Rundle
  2. IconPark offers some nice stock icons. I’ve just picked up a set for my secret project - at $29, they’re a steal. Via David Kaneda

  3. I have now decided that making iTunes visually inconsistent with everything must be some sort of strategy. Here we are with yet another new window colour – instead of using the system grey gradient, it’s very slightly lighter (even though it was right in the last version). They’ve also lightened the already custom scroll bars, presumably so they don’t match the custom scroll bars in all the other iLife apps.
  4. They say ‘just add a button’ [to your UI]…. that’s like saying ‘just stab a kitten’
  5. ➶ Writing Microcopy - Bokardo

A great article on writing microcopy. The subtitle gives you the best idea of what follows:

The fastest way to improve your interface is to improve your copy-writing.

I couldn’t agree more. Subtle word prompts in the UI can be a great way to hint things.

  6. ➶ iPhone UI Vector Elements

There’s a Photoshop set that’s been around for a while, but this looks like an awesome addition for Illustrator fans.

  7. ➶ The Sincerest Form of Flattery

We’ve been a little angry at Realmac HQ about a certain application gratuitously borrowing from LittleSnapper’s UI. My particular favourite (not featured in the post) is the Predicate Editor sheet (LittleSnapper / Voila) that not only swipes the language, but also the capitalisation… “Liberal gratuitous borrowing” is one thing. Swiping language that I fucking put in the application (capitalisation intact) is another thing entirely.

  8. ➶ eddit: Shop: iPhone UI Icon Set

More UI awesomeness, this is a sweet $69 set of royalty-free icons for making super-gorgeous iPhone apps (via Mike Rundle)

  9. ➶ The Three20 Project

If you’re creating iPhone apps, you’ll want to make the most of this awesome open-source UI goodness from Joe Hewitt (engineer at Facebook who uses the same code in their iPhone app).
